METALLICA Interviewed By BRUCE DICKINSON; Audio Available
September 20, 2008All four members of METALLICA were interviewed separately by IRON MAIDEN singer Bruce Dickinson for this past Friday's (September 19) edition of Bruce's weekly BBC 6 Music radio program, dubbed "The Bruce Dickinson Friday Rock Show". The program is now available for streaming at BBC.co.uk. (Note: The broadcast will only be available for another six days.)
METALLICA's No. 1 debut on the Billboard album chart with its new album, "Death Magnetic", has made history. The No. 1 arrival makes METALLICA the only band to have five albums debut in the top spot, breaking a tie at four albums held by THE BEATLES, U2 and the DAVE MATTHEWS BAND. "Death Magnetic" is also METALLICA's fifth consecutive studio effort to enter at No. 1, following 1991's self-titled "black album," 1996's "Load", '97's "Reload" and 2003's "St. Anger". The album sold 490,000 copies in just four days of release, arriving in stores last Friday (September 12) instead of the usual Tuesday.
Drummer Lars Ulrich told The Pulse of Radio that he believes one reason for METALLICA's continued success is the bond the band has with its fans: "The main thing really is just the fans. How do you communicate with your fans, how do you get the music to the fans, how do you offer your fans the best METALLICA experience that you can? And I'd like to think that METALLICA, over the years, we kind of float around in our own little bubble. We do things our way, and sometimes we take some chances, and sometimes we play it safe and sometimes we're on the frontlines and sometimes, you know, we're on the second wave or whatever. But we kind of do it, you know, in our own little bubble."
